Interview with RounDUp 2008 winner, Von Klap

Perhaps when you win RounDUp 2009...you can grow up to be just like Von Klap :D
I spoke to them a while back and here's what they had to say...

1) Its been a year since your win at the 2008 RoundUp competition, whats been happening since?

Since the last time you heard from "Von" Klap Bobby has had two more children and Sam has had a haircut. The band has just finished recording 14 tracks for their debut album, "Dog". There have been new videos for the songs "Dying" and "Water and Wine". Of course, who could forget when RDU, in association with Gorilla Pictures, Hells Pizza, "The Swank" artists of hair, The Sitting Room, Tandem Voice Booth, Embassy, The Rockshop, Goodbye Blue Monday and Schwartzkopf brung you a video about "Not Getting Younger".

The band started letting off progressively larger and larger and then massive party poppers, sometimes projecting confetti up to 25 Metres according to the packaging. This created such a good vibe and everybody enjoyed themselves so much that nobody even noticed the smoke machine anymore.

David Bain was found innocent in his retrial and old cut stab-dogg was sentenced for murder. MJ died and the band watched "Shoah" another couple of times. Damien went to Thailand with his stepdad and little brother. Tim Moore rocked out at ChartFest to a crowd which swelled to at least 12-15 people, who apparently "felt uncomfortable". Nathan Haines closed for the band at SounDay and afterwards said that he felt "it was an honour". Matty X can see again thanks to the optometrists at Northlands Mall and Rayban.

Bobby had a motorcycle accident, and Chicken Pox. Sam quit the band after a performance-related-fiasco but was allowed to re-enter due to the low standard of applicants for the position of drummer.

The band went from strength to strength and changed their name to "Von Klap". Universal acclaim soon followed. The number of dogs in Christchurch increased from around 300 to 320. The tenth anniversary of Darcy Clay's death passed, and everybody tipped some booze on the carpet at practice to commemorate this. Von Klap travelled to majestic Onekaka's The Mussell Inn and had a swell time. The band remains desperate for any endorsement and/or sponsorship. They can be contacted on 021 353 759.

Currently the band are mixing the album, "Dog", and planning a new video which will "tackle the youth binge-drinking culture in Christchurch", thanks to Creative Communities, Christchurch City Council and Goodbye Blue Monday.

There have been many more dogs in the south island than Von Klap can remember, and the band hopes to honour the memory of all these lost dogs and celebrate the dogs of today with their forthcoming album "Dog".

2) Phew. Good effort. I need to rest for bit! But anyways, Last year you entered under the name 'The Klap', why the name change?

"Von Klap" are a band that used to be called "The Klap" until they realised "the" is totally passe and "von" is totes. Also, there are about 14 other bands around called "The Klap".

3) Haha. What are you plans for the future now that the win has kick-started your career somewhat.

"Von" Klap will continue to be more totes.

somewhat

cheers rdu

4) I see one of you (Tim) also has a solo project...any chance you'll be entering this year as a solo artist? Or any other boys in other musical projects?

No. "Bois Torlut" are considering entering but only Sam and Matty X are in it. Tim sucks

5) I'll keep that in mind :P...And lastly...any advice for this year's competitors?

Dont bother, unless you're The Unfaithful Ways.
But if you must ignore our first advice,
stageshow stageshow stageshow.
